Di sana, saya telah membuat jurusan Pengurusan Kemudahan (Facilities Management), dan telah berjaya menyiapkan satu kajian bertajuk ‘Innovations for the improvement of the Waste Paper Management in the Commercial Buildings’.
Di sini, saya pastekan sedutan daripada definisi inovasi dari kajian saya yang lepas:
Innovation is about change, as stated by QA Research:
Innovation is, of course, about change – but about evolution as much as revolution, and certainly about much more than just new product development.
(QA Research, 1997: vii)
For the organisation to improve their performance in the industry, they need to change. The changing will not be only in marketing strategies, but it can be from various perspectives.
To change, the organisation needs to have a clear picture of how to do it. Innovation is one of the solutions. To innovate, the organisation needs to be creative. And to be creative, the organisation needs to learn. Thus, the learning process is important in promoting innovation in any organisation.
Innovation creates noble ideas, means new ideas that haven’t being tried before (Ibid). But as QA Research (1997) shows in their research:
If it is internally innovative it may not be externally innovative – then it is just catching up. So for us when we see the competitor has done a certain thing, we will then do it. In that case we are being innovate compared with our previous work factors. But we are not necessarily being innovative in terms of the customers. If we do something that is good, our competitors will copy us as they should do. In that case we have got to do something else to get a competitive edge. So actually it has got to be a continuous process.
(QA Research, 1997: 17)
From the statement above, innovation can be seen as creating new ideas to improve the internal operation. To create noble ideas, innovators can get from various sources. One of them is by imitating from others, but at the same time, innovators need to change the ideas to suit with the internal environment in their organisation.
An innovation is the effective generation and implementation of a new idea which enhances overall organisational performance.
(Barret, P. and Sexton, M., 1998: 2)
Sambung lagi, Insya Allah.
